Three Days, Class II:

Departure Dates
Tuesdays and Fridays – June 12 through August 28

Price
$554 Adult / $448 Youth

FAMILY TRIPS

•  The Lower Klamath is the ideal river trip for your whole family. The mild rapids provide splashy fun for all age groups and the warm, clear water beckons all to jump in for a swim.

BOATS

•  We bring along 2 types of boats for this trip. Our rafts are piloted by your experienced guide who controls the boat with a long set of wooden oars. These boats can hold up to five passengers. We also bring along Inflatable Kayaks. These boats are either single passenger or tandem (double passenger) and are easy to maneuver through low-to-mid intensity whitewater, even if you have no paddling experience. Riding chutes, waves and drops in an inflatable kayak is almost like being a part of the river itself.

Sample Itinerary

Family Adventures We pride ourselves in running a relaxed and always flexible schedule. Every trip is different depending upon the group, other trips on the water and sometimes the weather. The following is a sample of what your trip could be like.

•  Our meeting place is Forest Lodge in Happy Camp. An O.A.R.S. guide will provide each guest with two waterproof bags (per person) so that you can repack your gear. Once packed, we will transfer to the launch site for an orientation in river safety. We will then board the rafts and inflatable kayaks and tackle the rapids. We will pull over along the river for a delicious lunch, after which we will continue down river to our campsite. Note: Our guides are very knowledgeable of the river and will adjust the logistics of each trip to optimize your river rafting experience.

•  At the end of the afternoon the guides will set up the camp kitchen and begin preparing a gourmet dinner. While in camp there will be time to set up your individual site, get to know each other better, fish, swim, play, or perhaps sample the delectable hors d'oeuvres prepared by your guides. Dessert and perhaps a tall tale or two always follows the evening meal.

•  The next morning we will rise to the wonderful smells of coffee and breakfast. We have time to repack our gear and prepare for another exciting day on the river. Today we will continue moving down stream, stopping for lunch and perhaps to pick blackberries (in season). We may take a short hike to scout the class II rapid before we challenge it in our rafts and kayaks.

•  That evening we will spend one more night along the river and continue down the wild and scenic Klamath the next morning for another exciting day of rafting. Once we reach take-out, we'll unload the boats and transfer back to your cars at the Forest Lodge.

Why Northern California?

•  Mount Shasta, California offers a multitude of recreational opportunities. Boating, hiking, camping, backpacking, mountain biking, fishing, you name it— it all seems that much more pleasing with the constant view of Mount Shasta. This amazing alpine backdrop will decorate any activity we introduce you to.

•  California's Pacific Coast isn't limited to the Big Sur region—Highway 101 winds its way down the northern coastal region amid panoramas of great scenic beauty. Like big trees? The world's tallest recorded living trees can be found along the northern California coast. Almost half of the worlds existing redwood forests are found within the protected boundaries of the Redwood National and State Parks . In 1994, the National Park Service and the California State Parks joined force together in order to best manage four parks -- Redwood National Park, Jedediah Smith, Del Norte Coast, and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Parks -- collectively known as the Redwood National and State Parks . These parks have been designated a World Heritage Site and a Biosphere Reserve, a visit to the region would be incomplete without exploring these parks.

•  The Trinity Alps are nestled within the rugged wilderness area we know as the Klamath Knot, found between Redding and Eureka, California. This area truly is a backpacker's paradise, with breathtaking panoramas of mountains, lakes and forests. If fly fishing is your sport, you can try for Brown, Rainbow, or Brook Trout.

How do I get to the Lower Klamath?

•  Most people drive their own car to the meeting place, however, for those that are flying, the closest airport is in Medford, OR (approximately 2 hours by car to Happy Camp). Redding, CA, is the next closest airport (approximately 4 hours to Happy Camp by car). Happy Camp is a very small community and you'll be able to find the Forest Lodge easily. If you're coming from I-5 it's on your left at the junction of Davis Rd and Hwy 96.
