will take you down the river, which gently winds through scenic
splendor of the northwest corner of California. This family adventure
vacation is ideal for families with younger children and beginner
rafters. This family adventure vacation will take you rafting along a
warm, gentle section of the Klamath River that flows between the
historic mountain region of northern California. The Klamath is
California's second largest river (the Sacramento is the largest). As
one of the first rivers in California to be granted National Wild and
Scenic status, the Klamath runs free for 180 miles to the Pacific
Ocean. It is treasured for its scenic beauty, diverse wildlife, and
multitude of recreational opportunities.
Family Adventure - Why the Lower
Klamath?
The focus of this family adventure
vacation is to allow children to gain confidence and have fun being
outdoors and on the river. The rapids are small, yet
always exciting. We spend our time exploring side creeks, swimming or
floating in the warm river, watching for deer and turtles along the
riverbank, and picking local blackberries (when in season), all to make
this a special family adventure vacation. As is true for so many other
California rivers, the Lower Klamath region is rich in history. The
areas indigenous peoples provided the name of the river, derived from
their word for “swiftness”. Gold miners and other
colorful characters flooded the region in the mid 1800's, and old
mining sites line the river in various places. This river is located
along the route of the Pacific Flyway, a major migratory route for Blue
and Green Herons, Bald and Golden Eagles, Falcons, Osprey, Cormorants,
Canadian Geese, Numerous Species of River Birds and even Pelicans.
